I've also had some great feedback from users from time to time. Invariably there will be questions about how to get the ringtones to their phone, which frankly will probably vary depending on your phone network and manufacturer.

For the most part though I've found that if you can find the mms email address of your wireless account you can usually attach an mp3 to an email to yournumber@yourmms.com where yournumber of course is your 10 digit wireless number and yourmms.com is the address for your wireless provider of their mms gateway. For instance with verizon wireless it's yournumber@vzwpix.com.

In the future I may branch out with instructions tailored to some of the bigger providers and see how that goes, but for the moment I've been hard at work with other projects.

I do love to see your feedback though, I've had several people say they spent the whole day geeking out on the site and others that have been out of using morse for a while getting back into cw and using the ringtones as practice. So, whatever your reason may be, go ahead and stop by to get your morse code mp3 ringtones for free!

Morse Code Resources

I've put together a list of morse code resources that you may be interested in. These include places to learn morse code online, places that you can practice your morse code skills and really fun things like entire books interpreted in morse code.

Here's the beginnings of the list for your convenience:

Not long ago I launched a Morse Code Ringtones site that has free mp3 downloads for more than 9000 names and oodles of initials up to three characters. Along the way, I found many interesting morse code resources online and wanted to make a page for those great tools, references, etc.

First off is a fantastic Morse Code Course from K7QO that is available for free download. Complaining that you never learned morse code? Download it and go through the course and you will OWN morse code.

Want to really practice morse? Try listening to the book A Princess of Mars in morse code. It progressively moves at faster and faster words per minute as you approach the end. This assumes you’ll be getting quicker and quicker at understanding it.

AA9PW’s great morse code practice – not only can you practice qso’s, but you can have news rss feeds converted to mp3 morse code for your ipod/etc. (Or I guess you could play it in your car and turn up the stereo real loud just to see the looks you get.)

Of course if you want free Morse code mp3 ringtones you know where to find them and read about the site at the morse code ringtones blog.

Accented and other UTF Characters

I've worked up a test version of the morse code generator that handles UTF characters (accented characters and letters that exist in Western languages other than English.) However, I haven't pushed that to be the default version of the script yet for a couple of reasons. The first and foremost is the ability of programs at the command line level to deal with truncating a string by the number of UTF characters (where a character may be up to 3 bits in length.) It's a little complex to describe, but for the purposes of naming the files I had to resort to substituting x for the utf characters.... which is less than ideal.

So, for now I've left the live version of the script where it simply strips out utf encoded characters to make life simpler.

The software that I use on the backend to create the mp3 files fully supports utf encoded characters and has the correct morse code for those (as well as punctuation.) But, the nasty problem is that the input has to be sanitized before being parsed by the script because I don't want just ANY characters to be in the variable that becomes the morse text. If the input isn't sanitized "that would be bad" as they say and it might be possible to run commands on the system other than what the script intends.

I am pleased to have seen the volume of traffic we've received in recent weeks though. I appreciate everyone stopping by and taking a look at the morse code ringtones project. Other work has been busy enough in the last few weeks though that I haven't devoted much time to furthering the idea. That's probably just as well though....

I have been drilling myself on recognizing the Prosigns and punctuation that I was always a bit fuzzy on before though. I'm getting a bit better with it, but the punctuation seems to be slow going.

Thanks for stopping by!

Morse Ringtones for Initials

Well, I didn't leave things sitting still for long, I realized that it would be fairly easy to get ringtones for initials up to three characters generated and so, I did. Now, we have free morse code mp3 ringtones generated for over 27000 names or initials. I also made some tweaks to the ringtone generator to give the option for repeating your input text several times and added two faster speeds to the text to morse code generator. It looks like traffic has been steady, thanks to everyone for stopping by.

This project has had me brushing up on my morse skills. I must admit that when I started this I was a bit rusty. In fact, that realization that my recollection of morse code was a bit rusty was one of the things that had prompted me to start this project. A skill never used will be quickly forgotten, but if you use something frequently you will remember it for a long time. So, I was thinking of different ways I could make use of morse code.

I don't expect to be making many more big changes to the site. One thing though that I've noticed with the text to morse generator script is that it may not overwrite a file if you go to recreate a specific bit of text that's already been done. (Say you want "text" at a medium speed with 1200 hz and repeated 10 times, but someone has already created "text" at a medium speed. So far, it appears that the new file won't be created.) I may solve that just by making the file names longer and including the tone rate and repetitions.

One of the main reasons I don't see major changes coming to the site though is that I'm already using up nearly all of my 10GB quota on the hosting account and while I could upgrade or host the files elsewhere, at this point in time I don't want to do that if I can help it. I've got enough slack space for the user generated files for a little while, but.......

Anyway, if you're looking for cw ringtones head on over and browse the ones we have already made or make your own!

Morse Generator Script Upgrades and Site Search

I wanted to do a quick post to mention that today I've added a few features to the Text to Morse Code MP3 Ringtone Generator. I added a couple of faster speeds as well as the option to repeat your text in the ringtone up to 10 times. (You'll probably need it for the faster ones.)

I really suggest you keep it to one or two times for the slow ringtones, in fact I would have to look back, but I think I've done between 2 and 5 repeats for the speeds I've autogenerated for the site. What works best for you will really depend on your code rate and the length of the text.

The name Ann is significantly shorter than Alexander for instance and at the slow speed, even the code for alexander may be cut short by some phones. So, feel free to play around with the repetition and speed settings. (I may even roll out some faster speeds - the current max is now 30WPM.)

I've also cleaned up a few visual typose here and there, added a search box for google site search. One note on this is that right now we only have 5 pages indexed in google, but from the logs their spider is going crazy working through the site, so.... in a few days maybe that sill be more useful. I added the alphabet menu to the bottom of pages as well to make sure that it had as much visibility as possible.

This is probably the last big round of tweaks for a little while. Future changes at this point will likely be in the form of expanded name lists (and Prosign/other mp3 clips.) This has been a very fun project to put together and I encourage anyone interested in advancing their scripting skills to lay out a project like this and do it to push their skills a bit further.

Given the size and scope of this site and project (9100+ names/4 mp3s for each name, etc.....) I suspect that there are probably a few issues here and there with a page that didn't generate right or who knows what, but I think we're at a pretty good point right now. Thanks again for stopping by.

User Generated Morse Code Ringtones

One of my long term goals for the site (several months) was to allow users to submit text and generate their own morse code ringtones. As I worked on some things over the weekend it dawned on me that it might be an easier scripting task than I thought.

It turns out it was a fairly manageable scripting task. I've limited the script in a number of ways. For one, the only characters that will be encoded into morse should be the letters a-z and numbers 0-9. Any spaces in the text are converted to underscores (for the file name, they're kept intact for the morse text). I've also enabled the use of prosigns (anything enclosed within angle brackets will be "smushed" together to make a prosign like <SK> )

I really have a lot of programmers to thank for providing wonderful free (open source) tools for the creation of such things, but I should give thanks to the writer of ebook2cw. This fantastic tool has made it possible to create mp3 files directly from input text (and supports the use of prosigns.) Now, while ebook2cw supports extended characters such as accented characters and ñ and umlauted characters, etc.... I've not allowed that functionality in part due to restrictions in passing variables to the script from the web interface.

I also have truncated the file names to 35 characters, so even if you put in a really really long bit of text for the code, you'll get a shorter file name and the long text should still be used to generate the ringtone. I should point out that most phones limit ringtones to about 30 seconds so don't try to load war and peace in there. (You'll get a VERY big mp3 file...) (Yes, I've limited the length of text as well, but it's not as short as the filename needs to be.)

For now, I've kept four speed settings (slow 5WPM/12 Farnsworth, medium 12WPM/18 Farnsworth, fast 18WPM and veryfast 20WPM). In the future I expect to be adding some faster speeds. Because after all this work, the 18WPM is not seeming too fast anymore...

I've also added an option to play with the output frequency. The default is 800 hz and is the same frequency that most of the rest of the site is generated at, but I personally find a 600 hz tone a bit more pleasing. The reason I settled on 800hz for the ringtones is... well, it's supposed to get your attention, not be something to sit and listen to for hours on end. I thought the higher pitch had a bit more shrill "bite" to it. That much said, some people may hear other frequencies better than others.... so feel free to experiment.

In addition to the ability to create new morse code mp3 ringtones, I've also added a way that you can see what ringtones other people are making, the user submitted mp3 ring tone page will maintain the links to yours and others submissions. It may not be kept permanently, who knows I may need to flush it from time to time, but at this point I intend to keep them around and integrate the best suggestions back into the main site.

Thanks for stopping by!

Official Launch of morseringtones.com

I wanted to get a post over here to announce the official launch of our mp3 morse ringtones site. morseringtones.com launched Friday June 12th and is amazingly already #2 for one of our main search phrases on Sunday afternoon June 14th. Thanks to everyone that has visited to date and we hope to see you back!

We're launching with ringtones for over 9100 names. There are 4 different ringtones for each name, all morse code, at different speeds. We have slow 5wpm (12 farnsworth), medium 12WPM (15 farnsworth) and fast 18wpm and very fast 20wpm versions. (In the future we may roll out some faster rates.)

The names are repeated several times (depending on the speed) so that each ring tone will at least be approaching 20-30 seconds long. (Some may be longer.)

While our ringtones are free to download and redistribute (creative commons attribution licensed), we do offer the entire bundle of ringtones for pay download (or everything on a dvd) through lulu.com For those that are interested in obtaining many ringtones, we prefer that you take that approach.

For your convenience, here are the links.

Entire collection of 9100+ names in slow morse mp3s in zip archive download.

Entire collection of 9100+ names in medium morse mp3s in zip archive download.

Entire collection of 9100+ names in fast morse mp3s in zip archive download.

Entire collection of 9100+ names in very fast morse mp3s in zip archive download

All four speeds 9100+ names morse mp3 ringtones on a dvd.

There are quite a few plans for future improvements on the site (including maybe faster speeds). Among them they include a script to automatically generate an mp3 ringtone from user generated text, updates to the name listing and expansion of the names available, possibly different frequency morse tones (current is 800 hz, we might experiment with higher or lower frequencies for ease of hearing/etc.) We also may insert more information about the names themselves on each page.

Given the enormous size and scope of the site we won't be making many big changes frequently, but it will depend on the interest in the site and rate of suggestions.

Thanks for stopping by!!!!

...-.-

(SK - that means the end of the message)

Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy for morse-ringtones.blogspot.com/

If you require any more information or have any questions about our privacy policy, please feel free to contact us by email at ajpblogcontact@gmail.com.

At morse-ringtones.blogspot.com/, the privacy of our visitors is of extreme importance to us. The site was set up to provide free mp3 ringtones with the morse code of many popular names. We also have large bundles of ringtones available for download at lulu.com (for a small fee.)

I don't know how many people may be interested in this idea, but I was interested, so spent the time creating several scripts to automate the build process for these ringtones. As of this writing (and our initial launch) we have a bit over 9100 names with ringtones, done at 4 different speeds for each ringtone.

This initial run of ringtones took my server around 6 hours to generate. In the future on this site I may give you some behind the scenes of how they were made, when updates are coming, how you can make your own mp3 ringtones, etc.
